Everything about Mandarin Oriental Chicago totally explained
The Mandarin Oriental Tower in
Chicago will be a 74-story 930 foot (283 m) mixed use building targeted to be the ninth tallest building in Chicago upon its completion in
2010, assuming the
Trump Tower Chicago and
Waterview Tower are completed first (both currently under construction). The Mandarin Oriental Tower in
Chicago is being built by the
Hong-Kong based
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group which current operates over 30 hotels all over the world.
This mixed-use building will offer 5-star 250 hotel condominium guest rooms in the Mandarin Oriental hotel (floors 28-40), 100 resident units (floors 41-54), and 150 tower
condominiums (floors 55-74). All 500 units will be offered for sale. Located on the first 28 floors will be high-tech business and conference facilities, two ballrooms, two restaurants, boutique shops, valet parking, and a 32,000 square-foot (3,000 square meter) health club and spa.

On December 2, a report in Crains Chicago Business stated that various parties involved with this building are having financial issues, and receiving a construction loan may become difficult. This problem is being magnified by the current real estate slump going on in the U.S., and it's possible this tower may never actually be built. At one point, groundbreaking was planned for January 2008 but, as of May 2008, groundbreaking has yet to occur.
